Training guidelines

FUN Nepal has worked with university students, adult groups, school groups, professional organizations and individuals from all over the world to create and run custom-made programs for cultural visits, service projects, voluntary work and internship work in Nepal, developing inventive itineraries in collaboration with these groups and individuals to meet their specific needs, goals and interests.

We have over 10 years experience working with international volunteers. Through our extensive local network, experienced members and comprehensive information about all aspects of Nepal, FUN Nepal staff are able to create extraordinary opportunities all over Nepal. Our group program is unique and second to none while our fee is extremely affordable (30-40% less than other programs). We pride ourselves on using local staff and resources to run our programs. Upon your arrival in Nepal, FUN Nepal will provide you with the necessary training to take part in your chosen program. This usually lasts a week. Training will be extended for long-term volunteers.

The training is divided in two phases.

Phase one
In this first phase, you will usually spend 3 days in a hotel in Kathmandu, with 4 hours of training and 2 hours of sightseeing every day. The day will be broken up as follows:

  •  Basic Nepali language - 2hrs
  •  Nepali cultural exchange class - 1hr
  •  Health, Environmental and social issues -1hr
  •  Sightseeing - 2hrs

Phase two
The second phase of orientation involves a transfer to a Nepali village in the Kathmandu Valley to prepare you for your village placement where you will be staying with a Nepali family and eating Nepali food. In this phase, in a typical day, you will have 3 hours Nepali language learning, 2hours for sightseeing and 1hour to learn about social issues. During this time you will practise teaching in a local government school in preparation for your community placement.

Upon completion of your training you will take part in the volunteering program of your choice. This will be followed by your opportunity to experience adventure. During this time you will be immersed in the natural beauty of Nepal by going trekking, rafting, on a jungle safari or to a wildlife park.

When I organized my trip to Nepal, little did I know what an enriching cultural experience I had in store for myself. As a student of sociology, I was drawn to the cultural differences in Nepal, as well as the opportunity to help others. Traveling...
